Boiler service in Alvechurch
At the beginning of November we were asked to service a customers boiler in Alvechurch (it’s located just outside Birmingham). We thought we would break down exactly what we do during a boiler service.
Remember when ever having any work done on your boiler – make sure the person doing it is gas safe registered (make certain you see their gas safe ID card! Our plumbers carry theirs at all times!)
There’s a lot of detail and work that goes into servicing a boiler but unless you’re thinking of becoming a gas engineer yourself, we don’t need to go into the great detail (plus it’s fairly boring and we want to keep our readers and customers engaged). Outlined below is a typical summary and checklist of what to expect from the Helpful Plumber (or any decent gas certified plumber) if we service your boiler.
- First of all, we conduct a visual check to ensure your boiler is meeting current standards and legislation.
- We will fire your boiler to help identify any faults or problems.
- We then remove the external casing of your boiler and check the major components such as the burner, heat ex-changer, the main injector and the spark probe.
- Make sure that your flue terminals are not obstructed and that the internal flue components are sealed.
- Gas valve adjusted to check that burner is com-busting effectively and properly
- We clean all interior casing surfaces.
- Clean any boiler parts that require it.
- Make sure there are no leaks by conducting a gas tightness test.
- Produce and deliver an in-depth report to detail exactly what we have done during your boiler service.
Below is a picture of an example gas safe ID – if your plumber or engineer cannot produce an ID that looks like this or very similar to this – do not allow them to tamper with your boiler.
