Here at Helpfulplumber we are on a mission to save you money. With our Experience in heating systems, boilers and cylinders we have some ideas that may save you cash!
First things first, if you like your house to be 25 degrees all day and night it’s going to be expensive, no way around that, but we still feel we can save you some money.

Boiler settings
Check the front of you boiler, if it’s Baxi or Worcester Bosch it’s simple enough to read the settings. If it’s on 5 try turning it down by one notch a day, see if you notice any difference, once you notice, turn it back up 1, hey presto, you’ve saved money!
Next, if you have a hot water cylinder, are you using the programmer to heat your hot water ? If it’s on constant, you are heating upwards of 150 litres of hot water ALL THE TIME!! That’s right your boiler will be coming on when the water cools even when its not being used! All heating and water controls will have pre set programs, google your control, read the instructions. This will 100% save you money.

Turn the hot water cylinder thermostat down, again a simple idea, it’s small white box that’s attached to your hot water cylinder in your airing cupboard, if your hot water is REALLY HOT, it’s costing you ££££, try turning it down and see when you notice.
Next one is even better, if you have a hot water cylinder, electric shower and a dishwasher, is it worth having the hot water on at all? Heating 150 plus litres of water to wash your hands twice day in warm water? Does that seem worth it? Up to you of course, saving money is about choice’s, so that’s another one for your deliberation!
Thermostats
If you have a wall mounted type in the hall from 1976 it’s worth thinking about an upgrade, you don’t need to be an ex-NASA scientist to operate a wireless thermostat (some of them are certainly aimed at the technically gifted).
We fit a Honeywell unit that is easy to use and can be placed strategically in your home to give you maximum comfort and minimal waste of energy.
So that’s a couple of simple things you can do to save energy in the coming months, we of course can come out and check everything is working for you, just contact us at help@helpfulplumber.co.uk
